In the summer of 2021, I worked as a curatorial intern for the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, where I conducted research on how family photographs (seen below) construct homelands despite the lack of citizenship faced by migrant workers in the country. I then continued to build this project into a collage making workshop using inkjet prints of vintage Emirati postcards, where visitors to the Folklife Festival could combine their own narratives about photographic memory with the bygone scenes of early life in the Emirates.
